November 2015 Notes
Kerilie
McDowall NCM
Frosty crisp
evenings and the ambience of winter arrives as we move towards the festive holiday
season. The Nanaimo Conservatory of Music is gearing up for many exciting
events in the coming winter months. We are very much looking forward to renowned
master concert pianist Janina Fialkowska’s performance for our concert season
fundraiser on March 13, 2016. A former London review
of Fialkowski raved about Janina, “Fialkowska
was always one of those "best-kept secret" pianists, loved by
connoisseurs for her tonal refinement and exquisite musical taste…the playing is sheer bliss. If you buy
one Chopin selection this year, make it Fialkowska's.”-Sunday Times.
Students will receive a
discount at a special price on Fialkowska’s concert of up to two tickets at $15
each. Tickets will be on sale at the Port on December 1st, but you can order
your NCM tickets at any time. Order your preferred tickets now from the NCM
office at 250-754-4611 to get a good seat to enjoy this special concert while
supporting the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music and helping to raise funds for
Nanaimo’s community non-profit charitable music school.
This is the
time of year to take out the umbrella or waterproof jacket to go for a walk in
the cool gentle rain. A walk in the rain can help you focus, relax and help to inspire
you with ideas to create your next perfect musical composition and to plan how
to execute that just right performance at your next recital or concert. Music
practice does not always require an instrument. Many of the best sports
athletes envision and rehearse their performances in complete detail as part of
their training. Top musicians will also often practice mentally when working on
complex or extended musical works, try it it’s fun! Along with good instrument
practice habits, mental practice can truly enhance your music performances.
NYC TO NYC
We are busy
working hard on our fundraising for the Nanaimo Youth Choir to go to New York
City’s Carnegie Hall in 2016 and are encouraging the Nanaimo community to
donate to this very worthy cause. Our goal is to raise $60,000 to cover all of
our expenses and we are already halfway there! If you would like to make a
contribution to help our choir please contact Oriana or Kathleen in the office
at 250-754-4611. You can also donate through Nanaimo
Conservatory of Music’s Canada Helps site, just make sure to mention it is for
the Nanaimo Youth Choir NYC trip. Thanks in advance for your support!
FROM
TERESA BOREK’S STUDIO
Teresa’s advanced student SAYURI KUBOTA performed piano
works of the greatest Russian composers in her annual piano recitals in
Victoria, Parksville and Nanaimo. She donated all proceeds from her Nanaimo concert
to the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music! The Nanaimo Conservatory of Music is
grateful for this benefit concert. We thank you Sayuri! Fundraisers like this
help us to stay supported as a charity so that we can continue to serve the
community and offer music classes to everyone and support our gifted students.
We send our deepest gratitude to Sayuri and all NCM donors for your support!
