Yesterday the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music was devastated by the news that André Laplante had suffered an injury to his hand that would make it impossible for him to play his scheduled concert on February 7. Today, all that has changed as our home town hero Devon Joiner is coming to the rescue! The show will go on!
Devon Joiner is a 21 year old pianist based in Vancouver and New York.
Born into a musical family in Nanaimo, British Columbia, he began studying piano at age four with the Suzuki method, and then continued his musical studies under the guidance of Ellen Vander Putten, Lynne Gauthier and Diana Lawton.
He recently completed his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia with Professors Jane Coop and Robert Silverman. He is currently pursuing his Master of Music studies at the Juilliard School in New York with Professor Julian Martin.
Devon has won top awards in many National and International piano competitions and has had solo performances across North America and in China as well as performing with the UBC and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras.
