Part of the Nanaimo Arts Council’s Spirit of Shadow/Spirit of Light: Multimedia Arts Festival that is running throughout February, the first annual Vancouver Island Chamber Music Festival is being presented by the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music.
The Chamber Music Festival features 6 acts in three top-quality shows performed by professional musicians. There are a total of 15 musicians involved in the event, 10 of them teach at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music and many perform regularly with local symphonies and ensembles.
“We are thrilled that the Conservatory is able to present this Festival for the first time. The support of the Nanaimo Arts Council, the Province of BC and the Assembly of BC Arts Council means that we can create a new event that we are hoping will happen every year in Nanaimo!” Said Kathleen Darby, Executive Director of the Conservatory. “The programming is an eclectic mix of styles from classical, jazz and folk and is sure to delight audience members of all musical tastes.”
The Festival is supported by the Province of BC Ministry of Community, Sport and Culture and the Assembly of British Columbia Arts Councils.
